The City of Gretna broke ground on a major retrofit of its central public plaza that will utilize extensive green infrastructure applications for improved stormwater management.
About the Downtown Drainage Project Phase I:
The project will be among the first public infrastructure projects in the State of Louisiana to incorporate sustainability and resilience best management practices. Additionally, the project serves as the keystone investment supporting the City’s Downtown 2020 Plan, with an emphasis on placemaking and downtown development. Once complete, the project will be a demonstration point for communities around the Southeastern United States – showcasing infrastructure design capable of meeting multiple community demands.
Residents and businesses in the project area (1st-4th Streets and Newton to Derbigny Streets) are invited to a public meeting on Thursday, Oct. 24th at 6:00 PM in the City Council Chambers to discuss traffic and access management during the project.
